Silence Symposium is start to new walkingtour in Drenthe

On Thursday, March 4 the Suydeveltpad, a new path in Southeast Drenthe will be officially inaugurated. The festive event takes place after the Silence Symposium in the forestry Odoorn. During this symposium some famous Drents provide their personal impression on the silence issue. Afterwards, the patron of the Foundation Peter Nijhoff will perform the official opening of the Suydeveltpad. The Foundation Peter Nijhoff, an association of over 30 B & B accommodations, organizes hiking and cycling tours with luggage transport and B & B accommodation in Drenthe. The Suydeveltpad is the fourth walking arrangement of this organization.

The "Suydevelt" in southeast Drenthe consisted mainly of former heathland, sand and swamp. The past is still visible in this part of Drenthe, is a small scaled 'esdorpen' landscape with places like Orvelte and Meppen and monumental farms that determine the village scene. The silence is also present in the vast forest and moorland, ponds and winding along the edge of lovely fens, in short, the area is a perfect setting for a tourist trail.

A few enthusiastic owners of B & B accommodations in Southeast Drenthe have therefore devised Suydeveltpad the past years, they have put it in writing and provided it with tourist information. The total path of 200 km has been cut into ten stages, and these can be combined into a three-or multi-day hiking package with luggage transport and accommodation in characterful B & B addresses. All this according to the proven recipe of the Foundation Peter Nijhoff, already 10 years successful in offering individual walking and cycling tours in the province of Drenthe. In 2000, the region Diever / Dwingeloo initiated the first Peter Nijhoff walking arrangement. The Peter Nijhoffpad was an existing footpath of 62 km in the nature of Southwest Drenthe. Due to the success of the walking tours, in 2004 also a cycling package was developed. Meanwhile arrangements are offered in four different regions of Drenthe. Besides the arrangements of Southwest Drenthe there is a cycling and walking arrangement in northern Drenthe: the Tweestromenlandpad in 2009, followed by a walk in the Reestdal arrangement on the border of Drenthe and Overijssel, and now also a walking arrangement in Southeast Drenthe : The Suydeveltpad.
